We were introduced to a set of drawing exercises to help stabilize our strokes, since many of us either did not sketch very well, and would often use incorrect techniques to sketch, like making several short strokes which would make their lines appear jagged and unstable. We spent the first 20 minutes just drawing lines across a sheet of newsprint paper, with the medium of our choice, i.e., charcoal, gel pen, pencil, etc. It was recommended that we use a ball pen for sketching since ball pens created smoother and more stable strokes, were advised against using mechanical pencils since their points are irregular and sharp, and could damage the paper easily. We were especially advised to use pens for sketching since pens took sketching a level higher, considering the lines of pens cannot be erased, unlike pencils. We were then asked to creates shapes we were comfortable with in the medium we wanted, and finally we were asked to show each other our work. I could see a certain style in everyone’s work which, although unrefined, I could appreciate.
